As a Spanish teacher providing Spanish lessons in Toronto, I always want to find more opportunities for my students and people interested in our vast culture, to find ways to get to know more about us. I wish to become a connection with the great people who are out there representing us, raising our flags and delivering great art. So people interested in Spanish culture here in Canada, will be able to have access.
Big part of our Hispanic culture and heritage is music. We own a giant range of different musical styles that cover a large territory from Mexico to Argentina and Spain.
No matter what language we speak, music always unites us. We are lucky to live in Toronto, a city that shines because of its multiculturalism. I want to take this opportunity to introduce the amazing Latin musicians that we have in this city.
Carlos Vasquez
Originally from Venezuela, Carlos began his musical studies on violin at the age of 10, and later on clarinet under “El Sistema” the world-renowned program of musical immersive training started in 1975 by José Antonio Abreu.
Carlos actively participates in the musical community within Toronto, performing on both clarinet and violin with many orchestras in the GTA including Kindred Spirits Orchestra, Orchestra Toronto, Counterpoint Community Orchestra, Greater Toronto Philharmonic Orchestra, North York Concert Orchestra, Oakville Symphony, among others.
He also is one of the main musicians for Sentir Venezuela Cultural group, being able to collaborate with the group, playing the Venezuelan musical rhythms and styles.
Outside of music, he holds a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, a Construction Management Post Graduate Diploma and works full time as a Construction Coordinator.
